The motor mindset

Built on a Legacy. Designed for What’s Next.

The Motor Mindset™ is more than a consulting program—it's a reflection of who we are at Industrial Motor Service.

Our Owner and Foreman - Doug Powell

Doug Powell isn’t just the owner of Industrial Motor Service—he’s the guy you call when no one else picks up. With over 30 years in the industry, Doug started as a motor winder and worked his way through every single phase of electric motor repair. He’s been elbow-deep in varnish, wiring diagrams, vibration issues, and late-night emergencies longer than most of our customers have been in their plants.

What makes Doug different isn’t just his technical mastery—it’s how much he cares. He’s the reason we still operate 24/7 for emergency service. If your line goes down at 2 a.m., you won’t get a voicemail or an answering service—you’ll get Doug. Because even now, after buying the company in 2015, he still works the floor. He’s still the foreman. He wants to know firsthand what’s going on with your equipment, and he’ll often know your plant better than your own team does. Ask any of our customers—they’ll tell you it’s true.

In fact, we lovingly refer to it as “Doug’s Fan Club.”
Because nearly every review we get, every thank-you email, and every referral starts the same way: “Doug and his team…”

Doug has spent his life earning that reputation. He’s solved the unsolvable, patched up disasters, and helped countless manufacturers avoid costly downtime—not just with quick turnarounds, but with deep insight into what caused the failure in the first place. His name carries weight because he’s earned the trust of plant managers, maintenance teams, engineers, and procurement leads alike.

When you work with IMS, you’re not just another number in the queue. You’re working with Doug—and his team. And that means something.

Our Chief Operating Officer - Taylor Powell

I’m Taylor Powell, and I joined IMS in 2018 as a financial controller, originally focused on the numbers. But it didn’t take long before I was on the phone with plant managers, quoting motors, and learning the inner workings of over thirty industries we serve. That’s when it clicked: we are the heart behind them all.

From food and beverage to automotive, textiles, paper, chemical, and energy—we keep the world running. My role evolved into something bigger. Today, I focus on understanding your operation, your language, and your business case. I build bridges between departments like procurement, maintenance, and plant management to make sure your budgets and pain points are heard, aligned, and solved.

Why We Created This Survey

The Operational Discovery Intake Form is your first step into The Motor Mindset™. It’s not a quote request. It’s not a sales pitch. It’s an open invitation to tell us about your site, your needs, and where you feel the gaps are—so we can build something smarter, together.

This survey helps us:

  • Understand your current equipment and workflow

  • Learn about your downtime drivers and vendor challenges

  • Identify where we can add value: repair, inventory, data, or strategy

If you’d prefer to start with a signed NDA before sharing details, feel free to contact me directly:

This isn’t corporate consulting. It’s two people who’ve lived this industry—one on the floor, one in the numbers—offering strategy and support you won’t find at a motor distributor.

We don’t just fix motors. We help fix the systems around them.
